February 8, New Delhi The front-runner to be the next Joint Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA).
Since Devajit Saikia was elevated to Secretary when Jay Shah was elected ICC Chairman in December 2024, the post has been unfilled.
The election for the Joint Secretary position will be held during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM), which is set for March 1 at its Mumbai headquarters.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officer Sanjay Naik and former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Abhishek Dalmiya are reportedly among the other contenders. But just now, Jaitley is the most qualified candidate for the position.
Shah resigned as Joint Secretary last month, and Saikia, who had previously served in that capacity, assumed the role as Secretary. The nomination of the new Joint Secretary will be the only item on the meeting’s agenda, the BCCI has emphasized in its official notice to all state associations about the impending election.
Jaitley’s increasing prominence in Indian cricket administration will be reinforced by his possible appointment. He would likely be expected to have a significant influence on important board decisions if elected, especially those pertaining to domestic cricket changes and the run-up to important international competitions.
