India beat England by 4 wickets in the first as well as the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series at home. In the series opener, India chased down the target of 249 runs in 38.4 overs for the loss of six wickets, and in the second, Rohit Sharma top-scored by hammering 119 runs from 90 balls to help India chase down 305 runs in 44.3 overs. With the series already in the bag, Indian team management would like to test bench strength in the third ODI against England.
The last match of the home series is scheduled to take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and for the Wednesday (February 12) fixture, India could include wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, spinner Kuldeep Yadav, and all-rounder Washington Sundar in the playing XI.
Kuldeep played in the first match of the series and picked up 1 wicket for 53 runs but was rested for the second match, whereas Arshdeep, Pant, and Sundar are yet to feature in the playing XI. Ahead of India’s travel to Dubai on Saturday (February 15) for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the trio could get a chance to play on Wednesday.
While Pant is likely to replace KL Rahul in the playing XI as wicketkeeper-batter, Arshdeep, Kuldeep, and Sundar could come in place of Mohammed Shami, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja and Axar have impressed with their performances in two matches played so far. While Jadeja dismissed three English batters each in both matches, Axar scored 52 and 41* runs in addition to taking up 1 wicket in the series opener.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is another player who is part of India’s ODI as well as the Champions Trophy 2025 squad, but there are not many chances of him getting an opportunity in the third ODI.
In the last ODI played at Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19, 2023, India suffered a heartbreaking defeat by 6 wickets against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final. In that match, Virat Kohli scored a half-century, and his millions of fans will expect him to come up with a big show once again.
India’s likely playing XI for the 3rd ODI against England: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy.
