Beth Mooney, the opener for Australia, won the January 2025 ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for her outstanding play in the multi-format Ashes series against England.
To win the prized monthly award, the left-handed Australian defeated fierce resistance from India Under-19 standout Trisha Gongadi and West Indies spinner Karishma Ramharack.
Mooney’s victory is the first time she has ever received the monthly ICC award, and it is the second consecutive time an Australian player has done so, after in-form all-rounder Annabel Sutherland’s December 2024 win.
“The Australian Women’s Cricket Team had a fantastic month in January. Playing in the first-ever day-night Test at the MCG in front of a record crowd for a Women’s Test was an experience we will all never forget, and winning the Ashes in front of a home crowd was really memorable. I am extremely honored to be a part of this team, which is producing incredible achievements,” Mooney remarked.
The opener’s valiant half-century in the third ODI in Hobart turned around a lackluster start to the series. Mooney, who stammered to 59 for four, held off a comebacking England with 50 from 64 balls, paving the way for the host team to score 308 from their 50 overs and complete the ODI sweep.
With 213 runs at a scorching strike rate of 146.89 in the next T20I matches, Mooney solidified her status as the top-ranked hitter.
Australia’s supremacy over their bitter opponents was shown by her incredible unbroken 94 in 63 balls in Adelaide, which was her greatest score in the format in over five years. This followed after scores of 75 and 44.
In the first and last Twenty20 Internationals of the series, she was named Player of the Match. She also ended the T20Is as the top run scorer.
