Jasprit Bumrah, India's premier fast-bowler, has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed. Bumrah has not fully recovered from the back injury that he picked during the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series.
The Indian Board named Harshit Rana as Bumrah's replacement for the Champions Trophy. "Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement," BCCI wrote in a statement.

Varun Chakravarthy added to India's squad.

Meanwhile, the Indian Board has added Varun Chakravarthy to the squad for the 50-over tournament. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been dropped from the main squad and has been kept in the non-travelling reserves alongside Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube. The reserves will travel when required.
"Team India has also named Varun Chakaravarthy in the squad. The spinner will replace Yashasvi Jaiswal who was initially named in the provisional squad," the Indian Board confirmed.
Harshit was Bumrah's replacement for the ODI series against England and played in both the first two matches. India had looked at Jaiswal for a potential opener's spot for the Champions Trophy and made him play in the first ODI against the Three Lions. However, he could not stand on the expectations and wasn't given a chance for the second game.
Meanwhile, Varun was added to India's squad for the England ODIs after his brilliant exploits in the T20I series, where he picked 14 wickets and was named Player of the Series. He played in the second ODI in the England series and might get a game in the third one too.
India has been placed in Group A of the tournament alongside Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh. The Men in Blue will open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by the high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23. The 2013 champions will face New Zealand on March 2.

India’s squad for ICC Champions Trophy, 2025: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy.
