The 90s decade has furnished us with some of the treasures of cinema. A cult classic that has been written down for generations Sholay remains a popular film. This Ramesh Sippy directorial features Amitabh Bachchan Hema Malini Dharmendra in lead. Hopeful pose its release in 1975 the film actually was not a hit at that time. Sippy had pinned all his hopes on this movie but it seemed to fade away so much so he was ready to re-shoot the climax and do anything to make it a superhit. Well his manifestations need not to bring the requirement of re-shooting and the songs became the selling point.
Celebrating friendships with Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Chodenge to Koi Haseena Jab Rooth Jati Hai and Jab Tak Hai Jaan we have grown up with these beats and this year it completes 50 golden years. In January the director unveiled a special jubilee postal cover of the film too.
A Viral Ticket
As this blockbuster completed 50 years an old movie theatre ticket started doing the rounds on social media. And GenZ netizens couldnt keep calm at the shocking ticket price! Today theatre experience have become a costly affair with a family of four spending around Rs 3000-4000 including food. But can you guess what could be the rates in 1975? Very low ofcourse! an average break up would look like:

Making of Sholay
At that time Rs 3 crore were spent on making this film. Out of this Sippy spent Rs 20 lakh on casting. During an interview the director revealed that he was lucky that his father GP Sippy was with him during the making of the movie. Sippy also said that if he had made Sholay today its budget would have been Rs 150 crore and Rs 100 crore would have been spent on the star cast alone.
The film ran in theaters for good five years uninterrupted and was regarded as Film of the Millennium in 1999 by BBC India. Did you know real bullets were used in some scenes? Reportedly Amitabh Bachchan narrowly avoided of what could be a fatal accident after Dharmendra fired a shot in the scene that grazed past his ear.
The film till date is something that every generations enjoys watching. Such golden stories can hardly be redone exuding similar aura.
