Anshula Kant an accomplished Indian banker holds the distinction of being the first woman appointed as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the World Bank Group. This achievement in global finance Kant assumed this role on October 7 2019. As CFO and Managing Director of the World Bank she is responsible for overseeing financial operations risk management and ensuring the fiscal sustainability of the organization reporting directly to the President of the World Bank Group.
Anshula Kant Career
Before joining the World Bank Anshula Kant had a long career spanning over three decades at the State Bank of India (SBI). She began her journey at SBI in 1983 as a probationary officer and rose steadily through the ranks eventually serving as Managing Director from September 2018 to August 2019. During her tenure she made significant contributions to the bank’s growth and strategic direction.
As CFO of SBI Kant managed an impressive $38 billion in revenues and total assets worth $500 billion. She played a pivotal role in improving the bank’s capital base and driving long-term sustainability. Her leadership extended to critical responsibilities including risk management compliance and handling the bank’s stressed asset portfolio.
Kant also held various leadership positions within SBI such as Chief General Manager for Maharashtra and Goa Deputy Managing Director of Operations for the National Banking Group and CEO of SBI (Singapore). Her tenure was marked by a focus on enhancing investment opportunities and fostering robust risk management frameworks.

Anshula Kant was born on September 7 1960 in Roorkee India. She pursued her undergraduate degree in economics from Lady Shri Ram College for Women followed by a master’s degree in economics from the prestigious Delhi School of Economics.
