Infosys Layoffs: Narayana Murthy’s IT giant Infosys has fired around 400 trainees after they failed to pass the mandatory internal assessment test. The mass termination took place at the IT company’s Mysore campus. The decision left several employees emotional as they were instructed to vacate the premises immediately. Infosys management terminated the trainees on February 7. Notably these trainees waited for two and a half years to join one of the leading IT giants in the country. They received offer letters in 2022. IT Layoff Clause A terminated trainee told MoneyControl that the IT layoff clause is cruelty and employees fear speaking the truth. This is cruelty it is a big company and trainees fear speaking the truth a terminated trainee said the outlet on condition of anonymity. Infosys Defended Its Actions The company responded to news agency PTIs inquiries by stating that all new employees are allowed three opportunities to pass the assessment; if they do not succeed they cannot remain with the company. This policy is outlined in their contract and has been in place for more than twenty years according to the company. The layoffs were conducted in an organized manner with groups of 50 trainees being summoned with their laptops beginning at 9:30 AM. Sources indicated that security staff and bouncers were present throughout the process. ‘Immediately Vacate The Premises’ One particularly emotional scene unfolded when a female trainee from Madhya Pradesh pleaded with officials A female trainee from Madhya Pradesh who was also sacked by the Infosys management pleaded Please let me stay the night. I will leave tomorrow. Where will I go right now? However company officials reportedly responded We dont know. You are no longer part of the company. Vacate the premises by 6 pm. Third Assessment On February 14 The situation can deteriorate further as another batch of 450 trainees from the October 21 group are set to undertake their third assessment on February 14 according to sources cited by MoneyControl. Critics highlight major modifications in the evaluation process noting that the passing percentage has increased from 50 percent to 65 percent. Furthermore the training curriculum has been substantially broadened. The existing system demands around 200 hours of study with trainees required to engage in an extra eight hours of self-study each day.
