The history of Indian cinema has several controversies stories that work around the grapevine. While the truth is hardly completely out there are several undercurrents that run. Rejection and acceptance of films by actors is a common play here. One such story is about this blockbuster from the 80s that was initially rejected by superstars in the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. And this project was with Sridevi a sought after actress by them. But the actor that finally played the lead shot to fame . This film was a little ahead of its time. Sridevi was critically appreciated for the same owing to her sartorial fashion picks and songs too. Released in 1987 the film by Shekar Kapur became the second highest grosser in that year. The movie was Mr. India. Why Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna Rejected This Film? The film was written by ace duo of the era Salim-Javed. Several reports suggest that the writers had originally written for Rajesh Khanna but was offered to Amitabh Bachchan. However the veteran refused to take up the role. The idea of a invisible hero would affect the performance of the hero as per Big B. Some reports suggest that there was some miscommunication between them and a Holi party back in the day was like the last straw. After this refusal by Bachchan Rajesh Khanna too did not wish to essay the role. Following this there was a rumoured misunderstanding between Salim-Javed and Amitabh Bachchan. It is believe that it was one of the reasons that made Mr. India their last collaboration. The film features Anil Kapoor (Mr. India) Sridevi Amrish Puri (Mogambo) Satish Kaushik (Calendar) among others. Mogambo was another character that has been written down for ages and the iconic dialogue  Mogambo Khush Hua still finds it way in pop culture. Apart from the lead role the villain character was also offered to Anupam Kher first. In an old interview later actor Satish Kaushik mentioned speaking to Mumbai Mirror  Do you know that Mogambo was to be played by Anupam Kher?” But when we got him into costume him and screen tested him everyone felt he looked more funny than ferocious. Then I had the enviable task of telling my old buddy that he was out of the film. We eventually signed a more menacing Amrish Puri as the comic book villain of Mr India and the rest as they say is history.” This Shekhar Kapur directorial is still popular and finds mention in pop culture.
