Our daily routine and diet have a direct impact on our health. Eating and drinking water at the right time strengthens the digestive system of the body. Often people ask whether it is right to drink water immediately after eating food or not. Special attention has been given to this in Ayurveda. If you are suffering from problems like stomach disorders, indigestion, acidity, or heaviness, then one of the reasons for this can be drinking water at the wrong time. According to Ayurveda, it is important to know the right time to consume food and water. So that the functioning of the body works smoothly.
Role of water in the body
During a conversation with Local 18, Dr Rajkumar (D.U.M) of Kayakalp Herbal Clinic located in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand said that our body is made up of about 60-70% water. It helps our organs to function properly. Water not only keeps the body hydrated. But also maintains the digestive system, blood circulation, skin health, and energy level, have you ever wondered when to drink water? Before eating, during eating, or after eating? According to Ayurveda, the timing of drinking water is very important. If water is drunk at the wrong time, it can affect the digestive process and cause many problems in the body.
The right time to drink water
If you drink water before eating, it can reduce your appetite. Ayurveda states that drinking water 30-40 minutes before meals keeps the body hydrated and improves digestion. At the same time, according to Ayurveda, drinking water immediately after eating weakens the digestive fire. This can hinder the proper digestion of food, leading to gas, indigestion, and acidity.
Drinking cold water immediately after meals is considered especially harmful. Because it can slow down the body's metabolism. Ayurveda advises that water should be drunk at least 30-45 minutes after eating. This helps in the smooth functioning of the digestive process and absorbs nutrients properly. Drinking lukewarm water or normal-temperature water is best for digestion.
Effect of water on digestion
Drinking water at the wrong time can slow down digestion. If water is drunk immediately after a meal, it dilutes the gastric juice formed in the stomach, due to which food is not digested properly and stomach problems can occur. At the same time, drinking water before eating reduces appetite, due to which the body does not get the necessary nutrients.
