Important news for air travelers! The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has introduced new baggage rules that will apply to both domestic and international flights. These updated guidelines aim to improve airport security, streamline the boarding process, and enhance passenger convenience.
Before you pack for your next flight, here’s everything you need to know about the latest baggage regulations.
🛑 Under the new BCAS guidelines:
✔ Only ONE hand bag or cabin bag is allowed per passenger.
✔ Maximum weight: 7 kg
✔ Bag size limit: 40 cm (L) x 20 cm (W) x 55 cm (H)
✔ Additional small bags (up to 3 kg) like laptop bags, ladies’ purses, or small backpacks are allowed.
✔ Strict security checks will be enforced at airports.
✔ Failure to follow the rules may result in extra charges or fines.
🚨 The changes are made to:
✔ Improve airport security due to rising passenger numbers.
✔ Speed up boarding & check-in by reducing excess cabin baggage.
✔ Ensure smooth airport operations and enhance passenger experience.
With fewer hand bags, security screening will be faster and more efficient, reducing long queues at checkpoints.
🛫 Air India:
✔ Economy & Premium Economy – 7 kg cabin baggage limit
✔ Business & First Class – 10 kg cabin baggage limit
🛫 Indigo Airlines:
✔ One 7 kg cabin bag + one 3 kg personal bag
✔ Total baggage size must not exceed 115 cm
💡 Tip: Different airlines may have slight variations in baggage policies. Always check your airline’s baggage guidelines before traveling.
📌 Before you travel, keep these points in mind:
✅ Weigh and measure your cabin bag before heading to the airport.
✅ If your luggage exceeds 7 kg, check it in to avoid fines.
✅ Keep important items (passport, tickets, medicines) in your hand bag.
✅ Check your airline’s specific rules for baggage allowances.
The new flight baggage rules aim to enhance security, improve airport efficiency, and offer a smoother experience for travelers. While this means stricter baggage policies, it also reduces congestion and long security lines at airports.
