One candidate on The Apprentice has already "quit" the show after things escalated quickly in the boardroom, it's been reported.

The scenes haven't yet been aired but it's understood one candidate dramatically told Lord , 77, "it's not for me," and exited the programme, leaving the billionaire businessman completely stunned.

It's claimed that the person in the frame was about to be fired but decided to beat Lord Sugar to it, calling time on their own odds of ever obtaining the £250,000 investment and mentorship.

Although the cast member has not yet been named, it is understood that a huge fight broke out in the boardroom after the teams were sent to Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare's birthplace, for this week's challenge.

Contestants were asked to source nine items in the famed area with the challenge of spending the least amount of money possible and under intense time constraints.

The business graduates would have been expected to use their entrepreneurial skills to haggle the very best deal, hoping for a couple of freebies, if possible.

It all proved too much for some of the stars of the show as they headed back into the boardroom to face their fate. According to MailOnline, niggles began to arise between the 18 hopefuls as Lord Alan Sugar listened to each scenario in a bid to make his final selection process.

A TV source told the MailOnline: "The Apprentice isn't for everyone and some of the candidates only realise that once they're in the process. One contestant this series decided to leave the competition early telling Lord Sugar 'this isn't for me'."

They added: "It came as a total shock in the boardroom – some of the cast now believe the candidate wanted to avoid the potential embarrassment of being fired. They saved Lord Sugar the trouble and simply gave up the chance of becoming his next business partner."

A person close to the candidate further highlight that the fleeing star had simply "realised that the show wasn't the right process" understanding that others wanted to win the investment more.

It was felt that remaining in the competition "wouldn't have been fair" to other TV fellows on the show and so the budding Apprentice star decided to leave.

The Apprentice is on BBC One Thursdays at 9pm and on BBC iPlayer
