New Zealand’s right-arm fast-bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out from Champions Trophy campaign as he faced an injury to his right foot on the eve of their campaign-opener against Pakistan here on Wednesday. As his replacement, ICC has approved Kyle Jamieson to be brought in.

Jamieson has played in 13 ODIs for the team, and the clash between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19 is going to be his first ODI match since the match against Bangladesh in September 2023. Along with that, this is going to be the first international appearance by Jamieson after the first Test against South Africa in February last year.

Since that Test match, the 30-year-old was sidelined from all the action because of stress fracture on his back, and especially since the doctors had advised him to take at least a year-long rest.

The pacer marked his return to competitive cricket through the Super Smash T20 in January for Canterbury.

New Zealand’s squad for Champions Trophy:
Mitchell Santner (c), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Jacob Duffy, Nathan Smith, Kane Williamson, Will Young.
