Amitabh Bachchan has been the most iconic star in Hindi cinema and arguably the biggest superstar as well. With a career spanning over five decades the actor has been a part of some of Bollywoods biggest hits. While his cinematic journey has been filled with triumphs the path to success was not always smooth. Big Bs early career was marked by struggles with several flops. One of them includes a multi-starrer film Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswathi directed by Manmohan Desai. Released in 1988 the action-drama featured a couple of stars but still couldnt an impact both commercially as well as critically. Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswath starred stars like Amitabh Bachchan Mithun Chakraborty Jaya Prada Meenakshi Sheshadri Nirupa Roy and Amrish Puri. The makers had quite high hopes from the film but it turned out to be a mega-flop. Moreover the pairing of Manmohan Desai and Amitabh Bachchan was considered a superhit despite that Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswath failed to win hearts due to its flimsy plot. Made in a budget of Rs 8 crore the romantic action drama earned just Rs 5 crore. Bankrolled by S. Ramanathan the film starred Amitabh Bachchan in role of Gangaa Prasad Meenakshi as Jamunaa and Jaya Prada portrayed the role of Saraswathi. For the unversed Jeetendra and Rishi Kapoor were first considered to be starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan. However later due to changes in script the original star cast was dropped. Later Manmohan Desai selected his final cast and announced that Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswath will be his last directorial.
