New Delhi: Babar Azam made history and registered his name in the record books during Pakistans league stage match against India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The opener got off to a steady start scoring 23 runs off 26 balls before being dismissed. Playing with a positive approach Babar looked in good touch until Hardik Pandya in his second over claimed his wicket ending his innings.
Babar walked back for 23 after edging an outside-off delivery behind the wickets to KL Rahul. However before his dismissal he created history and achieved a huge record by completing 1000 runs in ICC ODI events during his knock.

Babar Azam made history by becoming the fastest Pakistan batsman to reach 1000 runs in ICC ODI events achieving the milestone in just 24 innings. The previous record was held by Saeed Anwar who took 25 innings while Javed Miandad holds the third spot.
Fastest Pakistan Batsman to 1000 Runs in Champions Trophy
Babar Azam has etched his name in the record books by becoming the fastest Pakistan batsman to reach 1000 runs in ICC ODI events. He achieved this milestone in just 24 innings surpassing the previous record held by Saeed Anwar who took 25 innings. Javed Miandad ranks third having reached the landmark in 30 innings.
Babar Azams Journey in ICC Tournaments
Babar played his first ICC ODI event in 2017 being part of the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Pakistan team that defeated India in the final. He was also a key member of Pakistans 2019 ODI World Cup squad. In 2023 Babar led the team in the ODI World Cup but stepped down as captain after Pakistans disappointing campaign. However he returned as captain for the 2024 T20 World Cup where Pakistan once again failed to progress past the group stage.
Pakistan Lose Two Early Wickets Against India
After a promising start Pakistan lost two quick wickets in Dubai. Babar Azam was dismissed for 23 edging a delivery behind to KL Rahul while Imam-ul-Haq was run out for 10 after attempting a quick single towards mid-on.
Axar Patel’s Brilliant Run-Out
Axar Patel showed sharp reflexes quickly collecting the ball and hitting the stumps directly to send Imam-ul-Haq back to the pavilion. With Pakistan struggling Mohammad Rizwan joined Saud Shakeel in the middle to stabilize the innings.
Must-Win Game for Pakistan
A loss in this crucial match could all but eliminate Pakistan from the 2025 Champions Trophy making the contest even more significant for the team’s survival in the tournament.
