If a films box office collection skyrockets the credit often goes to the entire team along with the director. It is a directors vision that brings dreams to reality and allows people to enjoy them on the big screen. There are plenty of directors in Bollywood. However do you know who is the most successful one in Indian cinema? When such questions arise a bunch of names float in our minds—Sanjay Leela Bhansali the late director Yash Chopra Karan Johar Mani Ratnam and more.
However to everyones surprise Indias most successful director does not belong to Bollywood. The man we are discussing today is someone who earned Rs 4000 crore with just 12 films and became a prominent name in Indian cinema. We are talking about Telugu titan SS Rajamouli.
SS Rajamouli became the highest-grossing director in Indian cinema history. Unsurprisingly he achieved this through the success of his pan-India Baahubali franchise and the globally acclaimed RRR. Apart from the above-mentioned films SS Rajamoulis previous successes include Eega and Magadheera which have contributed to his total earnings of Rs 4250 crore. A major chunk of Rs 2400 crore for SS Rajamouli has come from the two Baahubali films alone.
Do you know that in Hindi cinema the highest-grossing filmmaker is Rohit Shetty whose films have grossed almost Rs 3200 crore at the box office? With such a staggering amount Shetty holds the second position in Indias top 10 list behind Rajamouli. Both SS Rajamouli and Rohit Shetty are the only two directors in the industry who have minted over Rs 3000 crore through their movies.
Coming in third position is Pushpa-fame Sukumar with a cumulative gross of over Rs 2650 crore. The fifth position is secured by Siddharth Anand and Nitesh Tiwari with a total gross of over Rs 2400 crore.
The only other Indian filmmakers to have entered the Rs 2000-crore club are Rajkumar Hirani and Prashanth Neel.
Veterans like Sanjay Leela Bhansali Karan Johar and Mani Ratnam fall outside the top 10 with their cumulative gross ranging between Rs 1300 crore and Rs 1700 crore.
