A ‘Perfect’ Alibi That Failed

As per a TOI report, 48-year-old Ashok Kumar, a sanitation worker from Delhi’s Trilokpuri, took his wife, Meenakshi (40), to Prayagraj under the guise of a pilgrimage. However, his real motive was far from religious, he wanted to eliminate her as she disapproved of his extramarital affair.

To make it look like a regular trip, Kumar even uploaded multiple videos of their Maha Kumbh visit on social media, showing them taking a dip in the Ganga. But behind the scenes, he was executing a cold-blooded plan.

From Rituals to Murder

The couple arrived in Prayagraj on February 18 and rented a room in Azad Nagar, Ketwana, without submitting ID proofs. The next morning, hotel staff found Meenakshi’s body inside the bathroom, her throat slit, and no sign of Kumar.

Trying to cover his tracks, Kumar visited the local police station the same day and filed a missing person’s report for his wife. He then disappeared.

A Family’s Worst Nightmare

On February 21, the truth surfaced when Meenakshi’s brother Pravesh and her sons, Ashwani and Adarsh, identified her body through photos and clothes. Police, suspecting foul play, began scanning CCTV footage and social media trails.

A joint team from Jhunsi police, the Special Operations Group (SOG), and Prayagraj’s surveillance cell tracked Kumar down in Bairana. He was arrested late Friday night.

A Chilling Confession

During interrogation, Kumar admitted to planning his wife’s murder for three months. After an argument on the night of February 18, he slit her throat with a knife, dumped the blood-stained clothes and weapon into a dustbin at the Kumbh Mela area, and fled.

The man who thought he had created a foolproof alibi was ultimately undone by technology and relentless police work. Now, he faces charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
