Nagarkurnool: Since Sunday morning, rescue efforts have been in progress to free the stranded laborers in Telangana’s Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel. Monday’s early-morning images of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel reveal that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is moving forward and deeper into the tunnel, where it is believed that eight laborers remain trapped. As of right now, the reaction force is attempting to clear the tunnel of the collected water.
However, NDRF officials told the media report that the squad has not yet been able to determine their precise “location” because of debris obstructing the region.
NDRF Deputy Commandant Sukhendu Datta told the media report that the army has mostly used locomotives and conveyor belts to move 13.5 kilometers through the tunnel. “We went inside yesterday around 10 PM to check what the situation was like,” Datta told the media.
The tunnel was entered by the locomotives. From the tunnel’s entrance, we traveled around 13.5 kilometers.
After traveling 11 kilometers by rail, we walked the last 2 km and used a conveyor belt. It is impossible to verify the status or precise position of the trapped workers since rubble has fully covered the remaining 200 meters of the fallen portion, the official stated.
“We had arrived at the Tunnel Boring Machine’s (TBM) terminus. We yelled and attempted to obtain a response from the stranded workers, but we were unable to learn anything since there was a 200-meter-long area covered with rubble. We cannot determine the precise position of the victims until the rubble has been removed,” the NDRF deputy commander said.
“We are now working to remove the water from the area between the 11 and 13 miles that is packed with it. We will begin the rescue efforts when that is over,” the source said.
The NDRF and SDRF personnel had a very difficult time getting to the collapsed portion earlier today.
“Going to the location within the tunnel is not an option. The muck is knee-deep, and it has entirely collapsed. We’ll need to do something else,” an SDRF official said.
At the 14-kilometer point close to Domalapenta in the Nagarkurnool district of Telangana, a three-meter part of the ceiling of an SLBC tunnel segment that was still under construction fell on Saturday morning.
Four days after building had begun after a protracted break, the fall took place. Some employees were able to get away, but the eight were stuck.
