Controlling prices is becoming a challenge for government officials as the demand for fresh produce and seasonal vegetables is expected to increase in the coming weeks. However, the arrival of the new onion crop may provide some relief.
With the arrival of Ramadan, the increase in prices has become a big problem for the government. The Punjab government may open special markets during Ramadan to sell goods at special rates. Where food items will be available at cheap rates.
No fair price shops or subsidies have been introduced this year, leaving citizens to grapple with rising prices. Many consumers have expressed disappointment at the lack of government intervention. Speaking to a Pak news outlet, daily wage laborer Mohammad Arif lamented that prices skyrocket before Ramadan every year, making it difficult for people to buy basic fruits and vegetables when wages remain stagnant.
The holy month of Ramadan is starting from 1st or 2nd March, for which preparations have already begun. People have started going out to the markets for Ramadan shopping and the prices of food items as well as clothes have started increasing. In this month, Muslims all over the world observe Namaaz, Roza and Zakat and follow the path of Allah.
