Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid halts live broadcast for 'breaking news' announcement

Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley interrupted the regular programming of on Monday to deliver some "breaking news".

Before handing over to Richard Gaisford, Susanna announced: "Good Morning Britain, it has just gone eight o'clock, and our main breaking news this morning.

"Former Prime Minister tells this programme there is a deal to be done over , and now is the time for the UK to step up in negotiations with the US to end."

Richard then took over, saying: "He was speaking here live just a few minutes ago, predicting that there will be a deal in the next couple of days between America and Ukraine over mineral rights, which effectively, he says, will put America back with skin in the game. Big Game changer, he said.

"Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, of course, has said that he'll step down from his job if it guarantees peace, so a lot happening today," reports .

Richard continued: "This week, Sir is heading to Washington. He goes on Thursday to meet the US president, and our chief correspondent Richard Gainsford is in Kyiv for us."

Appearing via video link, Richard Gaisford elaborated: "It certainly is. There's a big diplomatic gathering here today in Kyiv, 13 leaders sitting down with Volodymyr Zelenskyy for an emergency summit.

"They're standing shoulder to shoulder with him, not just against , but seemingly, now increasingly, against as well."

In an unexpected turn of events, Boris Johnson was spotted strolling through the heart of Kyiv this morning. After a brief exchange, it became apparent that he's not exactly thrilled with Donald Trump's strategy

The ITV reporter went on: "Bit of a surprise to see Boris Johnson just walk past us here in the center of Kyiv this morning. It's clear, having spoken to him, that he's not happy with Donald Trump's approach but says there is a deal to be done with the US."

The show then aired footage of the ex-Prime Minister speaking with Susanna and Richard.

His comments included: "You've just got to keep knocking the ball back over there."

He further elaborated on the situation, saying, "I mean, this is crazy stuff, and I agree it's all well in, but you've got to look at what is actually being proposed. And I think, to a certain extent, the deal-making going on, the brinkmanship now is the moment for us to step up and do what I think that Trump wants Europe to do, and that is show how we have a plan to help secure Ukraine."

Mr Johnson also hinted at a significant military commitment: "And that's going to mean, I believe, UK troops, there are going to be French troops, troops as another European country."
