Stock Market Holiday on Maha Shivratri: In honor of the Hindu holiday Maha Shivratri, the Indian stock market exchanges NSE and BSE, which are represented by the benchmark indexes Nifty50 and Sensex, will be closed on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
Hindu families celebrate Maha Shivaratri, which is devoted to Lord Shiva, every year during the month of Phalgun, which falls between February and March. The event takes place on the fourteenth day of the first half of the month of Phalguna, according to the Hindu calendar.
In most places in the country, banks, institutions, and schools will also be closed to commemorate the event, in addition to the stock market.

Tuesday’s record highs for the two domestic indexes, the Sensex and Nifty, after five days of losses. Around noon, the Sensex was up 163 points and the Nifty was up 5 points. Sensex reached 74,785.08 in intraday trading till the time indicated above, while Nifty reached 22,625.30.
The ongoing FII withdrawals, poor quarters, and worldwide geopolitical events have put pressure on the Indian stock market over the last five months.
Holiday Calendar for the Share Market in 2025
February: On Maha Shivratri, the markets will be closed.
March: Eid-ul-Fitr on March 31 (Monday) and Holi on March 14 (Friday) are the two holidays observed by the stock market.
Three holidays are observed in April: Good Friday on April 18 (Friday), Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 (Monday), and Shri Mahavir Jayanti on April 10 (Thursday).
On May 1 (Thursday), Maharashtra Day marks the end of the market holidays for the first half of the year.
August: On Friday, August 15, Independence Day, and Wednesday, August 27, Ganesh Chaturthi, the markets will be closed.
October: Three holidays are planned for October: Diwali Lakshmi Puja on Tuesday, October 21 (Maha Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra) on Thursday, and Diwali-Bali Pratipada on Wednesday, October 22.
November and December: Christmas falls on Thursday, December 25, while Shri Guru Nanak Dev’s Prakash Gurupurab falls on Wednesday, November 5.
