Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi is allegedly edging nearer to an incredible return to Barcelona.
In 2021, the curtain came down on Messi’s iconic 17-year stint at Camp Nou, a consequence of the Catalan giants being unable to afford to retain the services of arguably the sport’s greatest-ever player.
Messi has since spent spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Miami, the assumption being that he will either end his career at the latter or back in Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys.
However, according to journalist Alex Candal of DIRECTV Sportsa scenario could play out where the legendary attacker could once again feature in La Liga.

As relayed by SigningsMessi holds a desire to play at Camp Nou once again with renovation work nearing completion.
The 37-year-old possesses a contract at Inter Miami until the end of 2025, the current aim being to win the MLS title this year.
Messi has already kicked off the campaign with one goal and two assists from his two appearances in all competitions, Inter Miami also featuring in the Club World Cup during the summer.
Regardless of what transpires, Messi will realistically have a desire to play in that tournament, which is being held in the United States.
Nevertheless, the report indicates that it may prove to be Messi’s final batch of games for Inter Miami if Barcelona are able to put together a suitable package.

Is a Barcelona return realistic?
With 35 goals and 20 assists from his 41 appearances, Inter Miami will want to retain Messi’s services for as long as possible.
That said, they may choose not to stand in Messi’s way if he expresses a desire to spend a second spell at Barcelona for 2025-26.
Barcelona’s financial position has recently improved, yet it is unclear whether they would be able to facilitate such a deal.
Messi already has the most appearances and goals in Barcelona’s history, netting 672 times in 778 outings, and he would be welcomed back with open arms if a move came to fruition.
