Motorists are being warned that car tax will double for certain vehicles from April 2025.

The upcoming changes to car tax will see Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rates double for high-emission models, potentially leading to an increase of up to £2,745.

From April 1, 2025, cars emitting over 255g/km of CO2 will be required to pay an additional £2,745 to use the road. This will push first-year VED costs to a staggering £5,490 annually for some, marking a significant hit for drivers nationwide.

The costly car supplement is also set to rise to £425 per year, up from £410. This fee applies from the second to the sixth year your car is on the road if it costs more than £40,000 when new.

If your vehicle was manufactured between 2001 and 2017, then your car tax is determined by the amount of emissions your vehicle produces.
