After 'Deva's failure, Shahid Kapoor eyes success with 'Arjun Ustara'

Despite his acting versatility, Shahid Kapoor has not had a proper box office hit streak.

Except for three big hits—Vivah (2006), Padmaavat (2018), and Kabir Singh (2019)—most of his films have tanked or performed so-so.

Notably, the 2024 release Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya achieved moderate success. His recent release, Deva, also didn't make a mark at the box office.

Now, all eyes are on his next project Arjun Ustara—a collaboration with director Vishal Bhardwaj after eight years.

Past ventures

Before Arjun Ustara, Kapoor and Bhardwaj collaborated on three films: Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon.

The first two films were moderately successful at the box office with Kaminey earning ₹41.5 crore net in India and Haider collecting ₹49.25 crore net.

However, their third collaboration Rangoon was a major disappointment with just ₹20.75 crore net collection during its run.

Arjun Ustara (tentative title) is slated for release on December 5, 2025.

'Arjun Ustara': A love story set in the gangster era
Film details

Arjun Ustara is a romantic love story set against the backdrop of the gangster era in the '90s.

The film stars an ensemble cast of Nana Patekar, Triptii Dimri, and Randeep Hooda alongside Kapoor.

The success of this film is extremely important for both Kapoor and Bhardwaj as they look to bounce back from their recent box-office disappointments.
