Rain forced the cancellation of Pakistan and Bangladesh’s last Group A match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, ending their 2025 Champions Trophy careers without a victory. Because to the washout, both teams will now finish with one point apiece.

This matchup is pointless since India and New Zealand advanced to the semi-finals, eliminating both the tournament hosts, Bangladesh, and the reigning champions, Pakistan, from the eight-team competition.

It is now the second game following the South Africa-Australia Group B encounter to be canceled due to rain in Rawalpindi, as the weather has caused a washout.

There was always a chance of a washout for Thursday’s game since it has been raining in Rawalpindi for the last 24 hours.

Rain returned at a steady pace, thus the toss was officially postponed. Adrian Holdstock and Michael Gough, the on-field umpires, were supposed to conduct an official inspection time at 2:30 pm (IST).

However, weather got the last word at 4:00 pm (IST), when the game was officially called off without a ball being bowled and both sides were to split one point. Bangladesh and Pakistan entered Thursday’s match hoping to finish the 2025 Champions Trophy with a victory. Although Bangladesh’s bowling lineup was in a stronger position than Pakistan’s, both sides had lost to New Zealand and India, respectively, when none of the three aspects of their game clicked as intended.

Additionally, after the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup in India and the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, this is Pakistan’s third consecutive early withdrawal from an ICC event.

Regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy, there is still one game left in Group A, where India and New Zealand will compete to determine the group winners.

On Sunday, India and New Zealand will play their last group stage match at the Dubai International Stadium.
