All of the political parties have launched their campaigns and begun outlining their plans for the state that is headed to polls, despite the fact that there are only around eight months left before the Bihar Assembly elections. One of the most often asked topics among all of the accusations and pledges is whether or not the NDA coalition would choose Nitish Kumar as their chief minister.
The BJP leaders are reluctant to declare that Nitish is still the front-runner for the position. When questioned whether the senior JDU leader would be the CM candidate, the saffron leaders express skepticism despite their claims that the election will be fought under his direction.
While the governing coalition will run for office under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, the parliamentary board will choose the chief minister, Bihar BJP chairman Dileep Jaiswal said on Friday.
Why Does the BJP Have Doubts About Nitish Kumar?
Even though Nitish Kumar is still one of Bihar’s most seasoned leaders and hasn’t been charged with any serious wrongdoing, he still bears an anti-incumbency element. With the exception of a few months, Nitish Kumar has served as Bihar’s chief minister since 2005. However, in the most recent Assembly elections, his party, JD(U), saw a significant drop in both the number of seats and the percentage of votes.
According to reports, the saffron leaders are hesitant to run on a “tired” CM face. In addition, Nitish Kumar has changed sides four times since 2014, raising doubts about his reliability as an alliance partner. Along with Congress and Lalu Yadav’s RJD, his bitter opponent, he also formed the Bihar administration twice.
Despite Kumar’s vow that he would never again change sides and that the NDA is his “home,” the leaders of the saffron party are not in the mood to take him for granted. In recent years, opposition leaders have also questioned his health, pointing out that the chief minister is not as involved in public life as he once was.
In Bihar, there is no government, and Nitish Kumar has lost his mind. For example, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Chirag Paswan, Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, both Deputy Chief Ministers of the Bharatiya Janata Party. They all used to claim that Nitish Kumar had poor mental health. In December 2024, Tejashwi Yadav said, “The time has come to discuss whether or not Bihar has a government.”
What Does Nitish Kumar’s Future Hold?
Despite the fact that BJP leaders have not declared Nitish Kumar as their candidate for chief minister, Kumar’s party officials are optimistic that the coalition would win the next elections and that Kumar will once again hold the position. Additionally, the party had erected hoardings across Patna, the state capital, claiming that there was no opening for the position of chief minister.
In addition, during his seldom media appearance, Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar asked people to support his father because of all the work he has done. In addition, he requested that the alliance leaders declare Kumar the chief ministerial candidate for the next election.
“My father’s unselfish service to the public is his greatest quality. He put forth a lot of effort even after winning more than 100 seats in 2010. He persisted in working for the people even after winning only 42 seats in 2020. In order for him to continue developing Bihar, the people should elect him to the position of chief minister once again by granting him more seats, said Nishant Kumar.
It is anticipated that Bihar’s election will take place later this year. The INDIA alliance will attempt to return after twenty years, while the NDA will attempt to maintain the state’s administration. This time around, Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj is also running, making the election more difficult for both coalitions.
