It is said that women are the 'Lakshmi' of the house, but now they are also becoming house owners. A recent report by Anarock has revealed that women's investment in the real estate sector is increasing continuously. ANAROCK Consumer Sentiment Survey (H2 2024) has revealed that Indian women are giving a new look to the real estate market. They are not only increasing their investment in homes but are also giving preference to premium and luxury properties.
The report shows that the ratio of women's home-buying purpose and investment has now reached 69:31, which was 79:21 in the second half of 2022. Women's investment trend is increasing more in real estate than in other asset classes. This means that now women are going to invest the most money in this sector because the property market has always been considered a good investment option.
First choice of 70% women
According to Anarock, real estate remains the most preferred investment option for at least 70% of women, up from 65% in the second half of 2022 and 57% in the second half of 2019, i.e., in the pre-COVID-19 survey. According to Anuj Puri, Chairman, of ANAROCK Group, women's preference for housing over stocks is clear. Now only 2% of women prefer equities, up from 20% in the second half of 2022.
Gold comes second
Anuj Puri said that the other asset class that has attracted the most attention of women is gold. Although gold has always been the choice of women, in the second half of the 2022 survey, while 8% of women had an investment inclination towards gold, it increased to more than 12% in the second half of 2024.
Luxury houses are the first choice.
Anarock's report shows that women are not only investing in real estate but are also getting more attracted to premium homes. In the second half of 2024, 52% of women preferred properties above 90 lakhs, which was 47% in the second half of 2022. In particular, 8% of women are looking for houses worth more than 2.5 crores, which tells about their ability to buy luxury houses. Apart from this, interest in under-construction houses is also increasing. The number of women investing in such properties has increased from 10% in the second half of 2022 to 18% in the second half of 2024, which reflects a long-term investment mindset. The demand for ready-to-move homes has come down from 48% to 29% in the same period.
