Zeynep Sonmez advances to Merida Open quarterfinals

Zeynep Sonmez reached the quarterfinals of the Merida Open Women’s Tennis Tournament held in Mexico.

Ranked 88th in the world, Zeynep Sonmez faced world number 37, Poland’s Magda Linette, in the “hard court” tournament in the city of Merida.

Zeynep won the first set 6-3, leading the match 1-0. In the second set, Zeynep was ahead 3-1 when Linette sustained an injury and could not continue the match. Due to Linette’s injury, Zeynep advanced to the quarterfinals.

Zeynep will face the top seed of the tournament and world number 10, Emma Navarro from the USA, in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 03:00 AM (Turkey time).
