In Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, 47 lives are stuck in snow. Army, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP and Uttarakhand Police personnel have been struggling for the last 11 hours to save these 47 lives, but have not been successful. A total of 57 laborers were buried in snow. 10 of these laborers have been saved by rescue teams, but the rescue has stopped further. Snow is frozen to the knees due to snowfall. There is continuous snowfall, due to which the rescue teams are facing difficulty in reaching the spot.
In Badrinath area of Chamoli district, the glacier was torn (Evely) at around 8.30 am on Friday. This Eve was done in Mana village located near the Indo-Tibetan border. Here is the camp of Border Rhodes Organization (BRO). For the past few days, there has been heavy snowfall in Chamoli district, due to which snow has accumulated everywhere. Border Rhodes Organization had tasked a private contractor to remove these ice and repair roads.
In the morning, 57 workers of the contractor were doing snow removal and repair work from the roads. All these laborers were also living there by building camps there. These people kept five containers there for their stay there. In such a situation, all the laborers of all were buried in the same container due to the sudden explosion. After receiving information about the accident, the team of Border Roads Organization left for the spot. The team also informed the Chamoli district administration.
On getting the information, about 100 personnel of Army, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP and Uttarakhand Police along with the district administration team left for the spot, but it took three hours to reach the spot due to snowfall. The team reached the spot at around 11.30 am. Ambulances including the doctor were also deployed on the spot. The army had taken heavy equipment with them to remove ice, so that the people trapped in the container could be taken out quickly.
It is clearly visible in the video and photo that surfaced after the accident that there is snow to the knee on the spot and snowfall is constantly happening there. It is being told that this avalanche happened near Mana village located in Badrinath area at a time when the laborers were working to remove snow for the army movement. Then suddenly, Evely, engulfed him. Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said that the rescue operation is going on. Rescue teams are facing a lot of difficulties due to bad weather, heavy snowfall and inaccessible area. At present, the death of any laborer has not been confirmed.
At the same time, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Suman said that due to continuous snowfall in the area, the situation there is very difficult. Teams are engaged in rescue work. So far 10 people have been saved. Fast work is going on to evacuate the trapped people. We have demanded army helicopter. The rescued people have been admitted to ITBP Hospital in Mana. The condition of four of them remains critical.
According to the information, Chandigarh -based Defense Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE) issued an alert of Event in Badrinath area of Chamoli district on Thursday. The district administration was cautious since the alert. That is why action was taken after the accident in time. DGRE issued an alert to explode glacier in areas with a height of more than 2,400 meters to Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts.
