So, as Arsenal weigh up a move, journalists at football.london have gauged whether or not Mikel Arteta should sign Kimmich this summer.

Joshua Kimmich would be a great signing for Arsenal, so long as they still bring in Martin Zubimendi. He and the Real Sociedad midfielder would be a superb upgrade on Jorginho and Thomas Partey, who are both set to leave the Emirates Stadium once their contracts expire in the summer.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bayern Munich ace demands an eye-watering sign-on fee and wage seeing as he would join the Gunners on a free transfer. If Arsenal could agree a sensible contract then Kimmich would be an absolute bargain.

He'd bring a wealth of experience, quality and leadership to the north London outfit. If Arteta could balance Kimmich's arrival with Zubimendi, as well as Sverre Halseth Nypan for example, Arsenal could build a midfield that competes on all fronts.

With both Jorginho and Thomas Partey currently leaving on free transfers at the end of the season, Mikel Arteta will need midfield reinforcements. Signing Kimmich on a free transfer would be a clever bit of business.

The German international will bring experience and quality to the role and could save Arsenal millions on a transfer fee in bringing in replacements for Jorginho and Partey.

My one worry would be his contract demands. At 30-years-old, the longest contract Arsenal would probably want to give him is three years maximum, and to beat off competition, they are likely to have to offer a big wage and signing on bonus.

As long as his demands aren’t ridiculous, then I think it’s a move Arsenal should make. It could possibly free up some funds for that much-needed striker transfer when the window opens.

Free transfer opportunities seemingly come around ever summer. This time, though, there is a chance for Arsenal to sign a potential gamechanger without spending a penny.

Joshua Kimmich has proven himself to be one of the most talented midfielders in Europe across his time at Bayern Munich. The fact that his contract has been allowed to run down this close to expiring is bizarre, to say the least, it does present a chance for Arsenal to add valuable ability and experience to their squad.

Kimmich typically plays in the No.6 role in midfield but is also capable of performing at right-back. It's that versatility to play in multiple positions at the elite level which makes the chance to sign Kimmich too good an opportunity for Arsenal to turn down.

If the Gunners can agree a deal to sign the Germany international in the next few months, it would certainly add the necessary depth in the squad that Mikel Arteta will want to challenge for major honours next season.

Joshua Kimmich's versatility has been useful for Bayern Munich in recent years, whether he is playing in midfield or at full-back and with the quality he possesses, he could be a viable option for Mikel Arteta's side.

However, in the context of what Arsenal need right now, I don't feel the German is the right option. Like Liverpool two seasons ago, the Gunners need a refresh and an injection of quality and tenacity as well as pace.

Should reports be believed, Martin Zubimendi could be the next option through the door at the Emirates Stadium. The Real Sociedad midfield will add a silk and class to Arsenal's midfield but if they are to mount another Premier League title challenge, players over 30 with no Premier League experience may not be the right option.

Liverpool and Manchester City have added players still to enter their prime in that midfield and Arsenal have to do the same. Paris Saint-Germain broke the bank to sign Joao Neves, with the 20-year-old showing his quality for the Ligue 1 side this season, Arsenal have to go down a similar path and sign mobile midfield options who can protect, as well as be combative.

Despite the latest developments, I still fully expect Joshua Kimmich to sign a new contract and stay a Bayern Munich player. But if there is even a chance of signing the Germany international, then Arsenal should be going for it.

Mikel Arteta having Kimmich and Martin Zubimendi next season instead of Jorginho and Thomas Partey would be a considerable upgrade. However, the player's wages could be an issue, as they seemingly are at Bayern.

Also, after just turning 30, the length of the contract comes into question, especially for someone who has played as much football as Kimmich over the last decade. The total number of matches combining club and country is approaching 600, however, he has remained relatively healthy up to this point of his career.

Joshua Kimmich could be the perfect signing for Arsenal this summer. The German international has established himself as one of the most versatile operators in European football over the last decade or so.

In that time, Kimmich made a habit of winning with Bayern and boasts several Bundesliga titles and a Champions League medal after nearly a decade of service in Bavaria.

Even at the age of 30, Kimmich still has plenty to offer. If he were to sign for the Gunners this summer, few would argue that Mikel Arteta's side would be worse off with his addition.

For that reason, his addition would be a no-brainer for Arsenal.
