March 1, Bengaluru At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, the Delhi Capitals defeated the Mumbai Indians by a commanding nine wickets thanks to an all-around performance.

With three wickets each, Minnu Mani and Jess Jonassen held the Mumbai Indians to 123/9 in 20 overs. Meg Lanning’s undefeated 60 off 49 balls and Shafali Verma’s 43 off 28 helped the Delhi Capitals chase down the mark in only 14.3 overs. With four victories, two defeats, and eight points, they topped the points table after this victory.

Mani, who came back with impressive numbers of 3-17 in three overs, reflected on the performance by saying, “I think we performed well in all departments today – it was the proper DC way.” On the pitch, everyone’s efforts came together harmoniously. In every match, we maintain simplicity and adhere to our strategies. We make sure that any plans we develop are effectively implemented on the ground. Nothing new; the same strategy was used today.

Since the beginning of the WPL, the 25-year-old footballer from Wayanad, Kerala, has played for the Delhi Capitals. In the same year, she became the first Keralan woman to play for India and made her T20I debut. “The senior players in the team have been very helpful,” Mani remarked, reflecting on her experience and lessons learned so far. My bowling has really improved from my first and second years. They have given me advice on how to bowl based on the batters and the circumstances, including whether to make adjustments and how to adjust my length and line. They have taught me all of these things, including how to control myself while playing the game.

“I admire Meg Lanning a lot, and playing under her has helped me learn so many new things,” Mani remarked in response to a question on playing under the great leadership of Meg Lanning. On and off the field, she is constantly there to assist every player. She always has a wealth of knowledge and suggestions to offer when we talk about anything or ask her for help. Playing with her has been a really unique experience.

The host team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, will now be faced by the Delhi Capitals, who have already defeated the Mumbai Indians twice. They will try to finish the Bengaluru leg with a victory and increase their advantage at the top of the standings. They will be the first team in the WPL to play on consecutive nights.
