In a major turn of events, the case against popular TikToker Rajab Butt, and social media personalities Haider Shah, Maan Dogar, and seven others is going to involve provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). This comes after they were accused of online harassment and threat.
As per the complainant, social media painter Umar Fayaz, Rajab Butt and his group employed TikTok to intimidate and harass him. The complaint was filed on his basis, stating several instances where the accused reportedly indulged in threatening behavior offline as well as online.
According to the FIR details, Umar Fayaz alleged that one morning, Rajab Butt, Maan Dogar, and Haider Shah came to his house with armed men. In the altercation, Maan Dogar went live on TikTok, where he used derogatory language and made direct threats. The complainant added that the whole incident was intended to intimidate and shame him publicly.
The law enforcers have taken the case seriously, and as per SSP Investigation, legal advice is being sought in order to decide on the proper application of PECA Act provisions. The police are of the opinion that as the alleged offenses relate to social media, charges pertaining to cybercrime need to be included.
In the meanwhile, all the accused, including Rajab Butt and Maan Dogar, have obtained interim bail and have joined the investigation. The police confirmed that the case will be pursued with further legal provisions for a thorough inquiry into the allegations.
The case has been trending on social media, with people debating the use of online platforms responsibly and the implications of cyberbullying. The authorities have promised that justice will be done and that action will be taken accordingly based on the outcome of the investigation.
