Naidu was famous in Hindi cinema. She captivated audiences with her looks and performances. Did you know that at the age of 14 she won the title of Femina Miss India? The pageant was held in 1954 and after winning Leela Naidu garnered much attention. During that period her name was also included in Vogue magazine’s list of the ten most beautiful women in the world for ten years.
Due to her striking looks many legendary actors were highly impressed by her and one of them was Raj Kapoor. At one point the actor was eager to cast Leela in his films. However she turned down his film offers four times.
Coming to Leelas personal life she faced major tragedies. While working in films Leela met Tilak Raj Oberoi. At that time Leela was 17 while Tilak was 16 years older than her. The duo got married and had twins. However their marriage could not sustain and they parted ways. The custody of the children was given to Tilak.
Leela tied the knot for the second time this time with Dom Moraes a Mumbai-based writer. After marriage the couple traveled to various countries around the world but their relationship did not last long leading to her separation from Dom.
After parting ways the actress gradually withdrew from public appearances. She lived in her fathers flat in Mumbai but due to financial difficulties she had to rent out her home.
As per reports Leelas divorce from Dom took a toll on her mental health and she became an alcoholic. During this time she faced a major financial crisis and her situation became grim.
Later in 2009 Leela Naidu passed away at the age of 69 due to lung failure after a prolonged bout of influenza.
