Karnataka cadre senior IPS D. Roopa Moudgil is in controversy. She is currently posted as IG. DIG Vartika Katiyar has accused her of conspiring to keep confidential documents in her cabin. D Roopa Moudgil is a 2000 batch IPS officer. IPS Roopa has been in controversies before as well. In 2023, she also faced legal action in a high-profile clash case with IAS Rohini Sindhuri. An RTI activist had accused IPS Roopa of sending him personal photographs of IAS Rohini Sindhuri. In the case, the Karnataka government removed both the officers from their posts without any further posting.
The full name of IPS D. Roopa Moudgil is Roopa Diwakar Moudgil. In 2013, she also became the first woman police officer in India to head the Cyber Crime Division. Apart from this, she is the first woman officer appointed as the Home Secretary of the Karnataka Government. Her mother was a telecommunications engineer in the postal department and her father in the government sector. IPS D. Roopa has obtained a graduation degree with a gold medal from Kuvempu University Karnataka. She had an all-India 43rd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
IPS D. Roopa has been transferred more than 40 times so far. She came into the limelight when she arrested the then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharti in 2007. One year later, in 2008, D. Roopa arrested former minister Yavagal. She married IAS Munish Moudgil in 2003. He is also posted in Karnataka cadre. In 2016, IPS Roopa was also awarded the President's Police Medal.
