Because she won Best Actress, Mikey Madison will always remember the 2025 Oscars.
According to Variety, she won the prize for her work in “Anora,” which entered the competition as a front-runner in many categories, including best director and best picture.
In Sean Baker’s “Anora,” Madison plays the lead character. The story revolves around a prostitute whose life is turned upside down when she weds the son of a Russian oligarch. During her award speech at BAFTA, Madison honored the sex worker community.
Madison mentioned sex workers in her award speech.
“This is very surreal,” Madison began her remarks. “I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt so far away from me, so to be here, standing in this room today, is really incredible.”
“I just want to recognize and honor the sex worker community,” she said. “Yes. I will be an ally and supporter. Highlights of this amazing experience have been all of the amazing ladies and individuals I’ve had the honor of meeting from that group.”
“I also just want to acknowledge the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees,” Madison went on. It’s a privilege to be acknowledged with all of you. It’s a dream realized.
She defeated Demi Moore (“The Substance”), Fernanda Torres (“I’m Still Here”), Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”), and Karla Sofia Gascon (“Emilia Perez”). Madison demonstrated that she was a serious Oscar candidate with a victory at the BAFTAs, while Moore began the season with significant best actress victories at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards.
