One player put on such an impressive performance on that questioned whether he could join the show as a professional quizzer. The presenter welcomed four new players on Monday's (March 3) edition of the programme as they prepared to go head-to-head with .
All four contestants proved they had spectacular knowledge, with none of them getting less than £6,000 in the cash builder round. The final player to take on The Governess was Ed, a politics journalist. The 27-year-old answered eight questions correctly in the cash builder and his potential was noticed by Anne, who offered him a whopping £108,000 to take a step closer to her.
However, Ed decided to stick with the £8,000, admitting he was debating taking the -£2,000. He made it through to the final chase with no problems, taking the team's overall total to £20,000.
The other £12,000 was brought back by Chris, 35, and Julie, 65, who both answered six questions correctly in the cash builder. Maggie, 56, also arrived at the table with £6,000 but was unfortunately caught by Anne.
Ed put on a jaw-dropping display in the final chase, single-handedly answering almost all of the 22 questions correctly.
Questioning whether he could join the show as a chaser, Bradley asked: "Ed, want a job?"
Ed could only breathe a huge sigh of relief after the timer ran out as his teammates congratulated him on the performance.
The team hoped their score of 22 would be too much for The Governess to handle, especially after her rocky start meant she stumbled on the second question.
However, in true Governess form, Anne managed to pull it back, leading to a nail-biting final chase which saw the trio caught with three seconds remaining.
Despite the loss, Ed's impressive performance didn't go unnoticed by Anne, who even apologised for beating the team's high score.
"I feel I should apologise. I really did not actually expect to catch that. That was an excellent target. You did play brilliantly, especially Ed," she said.
