How is DA hike decided?

The central government assesses inflation every 6 months and on the basis of this, the increase in dearness allowance is announced. It is known that dearness allowance is effective from January 1 or July 1. But it is often announced only after two or three months. For the dearness allowance hike of January 2025, the government will calculate on the basis of July-December 2024 data.

CPI-IW indicates a 2 percent increase in DA for central government employees, after which it will increase by 7 percent to 55.98 percent.
