Gopalganj Water Supply: Both locals and tourists are without access to free, drinkable water since the public drinking water infrastructure in Gopalganj’s metropolitan regions has totally collapsed. The absence of government-provided drinking water facilities in squares and public areas forces people to depend on bottled water to slake their thirst.

About fifty years ago, Gopalganj, which now has district status, had a functional water delivery system that included a water tower and piped water that reached dwellings. In the 1980s, safe drinking water was easily accessible because of the widespread use of public taps.

However, an increasing population, building, and deteriorating infrastructure caused this system to collapse by the mid-1990s. Although 40 hand pumps were installed in 2019, more than 80% of them have already malfunctioned as a result of poor maintenance.

The district headquarters lacks access to free, safe drinking water in public spaces due to the failure of the Municipal Council and the Public Health Engineering Organization to solve this crucial problem.
