Delhi Speaker meets Om Birla, orientation programme of newly-elected MLAs to be held on March 9, 10

New Delhi [India], March 4 (ANI): Delhi Speaker Vijender Gupta met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday and said the orientation programme of newly-elected members will be held on March 9 and 10.The Delhi Speaker paid a courtesy call on the Lok Sabha Speaker earlier today. "I made a courtesy call on him and sought his blessings for the smooth functioning of the Delhi Assembly. We had planned an orientation programme for the newly elected members of the Assembly and we requested him to attend the programme and speak to the members during the inaugural session, to which he agreed. Now the orientation programme of the Delhi Assembly will be held on March 9 and 10 at the Assembly premises... I also invited him to address the Assembly," Gupta told reporters.The Delhi Assembly session concluded yesterday (March 3), amid the Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protesting against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Delhi government. Vijender Gupta earlier said that he intends to run the proceedings "in a fair and impartial manner" and all the "wrong practices which had been followed during the past ten years" of AAP rule will be done away with.He said the sessions shall be duly prorogued.The first session of the assembly, after a new BJP government came to power in the national capital, commenced on February 24 and was adjourned sine die on March 3.The House had five sittings.As per established practice the members took their oath on the first day - March 24.Addressing a press conference after the conclusion of the assembly session, the Speaker said that during the five sittings, the House conducted business for 18 hours and 18 minutes.
