X user Collin Rugg shared a video of the Pokémon piece online along with the details of its auction. The clip featured the highly-priced Cheeto. "This is the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto Charizard that just sold for $87,840", the video stated, expressing surprise.

The Cheeto went viral last year due to its likeness to the Pokemon. In 2024, this auctioned Cheeto was coined as the "Rarest Charizard in the world", making it attract a higher sum.

This time, the bidding reportedly started at $275 (approx. ₹24,000) in February and concluded with a staggering price. After being framed in a custom Pokémon card-inspired display case, it was listed on Goldin Auctions in February 2025 with a starting bid of $250. However, the price skyrocketed during a fierce bidding war.

The winning bid was recorded at $72,000, but calculating the buyer's premium it was sold for a rate of $87,840 (₹76.5 lakh).

Discovered by 1st & Goal Collectibles between 2018 and 2022, the Cheeto was initially purchased for $350 on eBay. It gained traction on social media last year due to its uncanny resemblance to Charizard, the Pokémon character which uses its wings to fly sky-high.
