Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has officially quit Bollywood and moved out of Mumbai. The filmmaker, in a recent chat, stated that the Hindi film industry has become "too toxic" and that filmmakers are now only chasing monies and figures.

Kashyap confirmed to The Hindu that he has moved out of Mumbai already and has also paid the rent of his new abode. While he did not disclose which city he has shifted base to, if reports are to be believed, he has found his new home in Bengaluru.

"I’ve left Mumbai. I want to stay away from film people. The industry has become too toxic. Everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make the next Rs 500 or Rs 800 crore film. The creative atmosphere is gone," Kashyap rued.

Kashyap also revealed that he is not the first one to leave the Hindi film industry and move out of Mumbai. "The biggest exodus is to the Middle East, especially Dubai. Others have fled to Portugal, London, Germany, US. These are mainstream filmmakers I am talking about," he said, adding that the people in Mumbai's industry tend to pull others down.

The Gangs of Wasseypur director added that moving out of Mumbai has helped his physical, mental and emotional well-being, and that he has also quit alcohol for good.

Earlier, Kashyap had hinted about his plan to move to the South after parting ways with Bollywood. "I am going to the South. I want to go where there is stimulation. Otherwise, I will die as an old man. I am so disappointed and disgusted by my own industry. I am disgusted by the mindset," he had said in December.
