Recently Kannada actress Ranya Rao landed herself in legal trouble. The actress was taken into custody by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Sunday evening at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) for smuggling gold. During the investigation the actress opened up on the matter and said that she was forced into smuggling gold. She revealed that she was blackmailed into gold smuggling. Further police also detained Constable Basavaraju and recorded a statement regarding his involvement in the case. Following her arrest on March 4 officials conducted a raid at her residence in Nandwani Mansion on Lavelle Road. During the search they seized ₹2.67 crore in cash and gold worth Rs 2.06 crore. After the raid officials removed three large boxes from her house. The total amount seized stands at Rs 17.29 crore. Arrest of Ranya Rao After Ranya landed at KIA from Dubai on an Emirates flight she tried to escape the security checks with the help of police constable Basavaraju. However she was caught by the DRI who had prior information about her activities. The actress was found with the gold consignment. During a thorough check the actress was caught red-handed with 14.2 kg of foreign-origin gold worth Rs 12.56 crore inside her jacket. Following her arrest Ranya Rao was taken to the DRI office in Nagavara for further investigation. Coming to Ranyas acting career she has been a part of Kannada and Tamil films and is the stepdaughter of K. Ramachandra Rao the DGP of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation. Meanwhile the investigation into the matter is underway and it has been revealed that the actress often received police escorts to sneak past security checks at the airport. Furthermore it is also expected that her husband will be questioned by the agencies.
