A 20-year-old NEET applicant viciously assaulted his parents in a terrifying act of violence that shook Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat area. A scolding for excessive mobile phone usage set off the attack, which left his father gravely wounded and his mother dead. The startling event happened in Waraseoni, a Balaghat district neighborhood that is populated by indigenous people. After his parents, Pratibha and Kishore Katre, confronted him about his phone addiction, which was interfering with his NEET preparation, the accused, Satyam Katre, reportedly repeatedly struck him on the head with an iron rod.

He attacked his parents at around 11 p.m., leaving them unconscious and heavily bleeding. He told close family members about the assault, and they notified the police via Dial 100 emergency response. “A first reaction vehicle (FRV) hurried to the scene after the Dial 100 got information about the incident at around 11:15 p.m. on March 3. After hearing about it, we arrived to the spot as well. After being transported to the local Civil Hospital, the seriously wounded couple was moved to a hospital in Gondia, Maharashtra, for life-saving care because of their critical condition, Waraseoni Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Abhishek Choudhary said on Wednesday.

While Kishore Katre is said to be stable but still in the intensive care unit, Pratibha Katre passed away from her wounds late on Tuesday night. The young person was arrested early Tuesday and first charged with trying to kill his parents. But the murder charge was also added when his mother passed away, Choudhary said.

The accused acknowledged during interrogation that he was very dependent on his phone, using it for up to five or six hours at a time. Because of his addiction, he apparently had few acquaintances and locked himself in his room. His parents often reminded him to spend less time on screens and concentrate on his education. His parents had put him at a private coaching center in Kota in May 2024, according to further research, but he left after four or five months and went back to his parents’ house. He was a mediocre student who had been studying at home for the NEET.
