YouTube on Wednesday (March 5) announced a new subscription plan that will allow ad-free content to be viewed on the video-streaming platform at an affordable price. It is called Premium Lite, and its pilot has started, which offers ad-free streaming of 'most videos' and is priced at $7.99 (about Rs 695) per month. Currently, it is limited to the US only, but YouTube says that it will be made available in more places in the coming weeks. Let's know the rest of the details.

YouTube Premium Lite
The low price only means that some features have been cut compared to the standard YouTube Premium plan. It will offer ad-free streaming of YouTube videos, but the Alphabet-owned platform has not included YouTube Music in it. That is, ad-free music and music video streaming will not be available. As YouTube pointed out, users can listen to tracks with ads on the app, but they will not get features like background play and music downloads for offline listening.

YouTube stressed that its new Premium Lite plan will offer ad-free streaming of 'most' videos. However, this does not mean that you will not see ads at all. The platform clarified that ads may appear on music content and Shorts, as well as when users search or browse content.

The Premium Lite plan has been launched as a pilot in the US and will also be introduced in Australia, Germany, and Thailand in the coming weeks. Last month, information about the launch of a new affordable YouTube Premium subscription was first revealed. It is worth noting that YouTube's ad-free plan in the US starts at $ 13.99 (about Rs 1,200) per month.

According to the company, YouTube is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has a total of 125 million subscribers, including trials. The expansion of YouTube Premium with the new plan is one of the ways the platform wants to give users many options to consume content.
