The Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) raided Kannada actress Ranya Rao's residence in Bengaluru on Wednesday and seized cash and gold worth crores of rupees.
The raid was conducted after Rao's arrest at the Bengaluru International Airport, where he was caught smuggling 14.8 kg of gold. Authorities recovered gold worth Rs 2.06 crore and cash of Rs 2.67 crore from his luxurious flat on Lavel Road, where he had allegedly paid a fare of Rs 4.5 lakh.
32 -year -old Ranya Rao is the daughter of Director General of Police (Police Housing Corporation) Ramchandra Rao. However, he distanced himself from him and said that he is not in touch since his marriage four months ago.
According to the police, the actress was detained at the airport on Monday night after arriving at Emirates flight from Dubai. After the accused actress was informed of riding on a flight of Emirates from Dubai, a four -member team of DRI officials came to Bangalore Airport and waited for her arrival.
DRI was monitoring his frequent visits to Dubai, which was allegedly involved in just 15 days.
Investigators revealed that she used to smuggle her belt and gold rods in her belt and clothes using her DGP father's name to avoid suspicion.
On landing, she used to call police personnel for pick-up, who then took her home.
The DRI is now investigating whether a policeman or any IPS officer associated with it was involved in the operation of gold smuggling or he did it alone.
Officials are also investigating whether he has smuggled gold before.
After the arrest, he was rushed to the DRI headquarters in Bangalore for questioning and later produced in court, where he was sent to judicial custody.
Ranya Rao, who starred with Kannada superstar Sudeep in Manikya, has also acted in other South Indian films.
