Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchans on-screen pairing was loved by the audience. Whether it was Veer-Zaara Sholay Naseeb Andhaa Kaanoon or other films the duos chemistry delighted fans. Similarly a film featuring both Hema and Amitabh turned out to be a huge hit. The emotional family drama left everyone teary-eyed and the acting of both stars was exceptional. We are talking about the film Baghban. The central theme of the movie revolved around how poorly parents were treated by their own children. Although the movie was a hit it didn’t generate significant earnings in its first week of release. Renuka Chopra the wife of the late director Ravi Chopra shared this insight. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla Renuka spoke about various aspects of the film. She also revealed how Hema Malini requested to have her blouse stitched much tighter than usual. Renuka explained that in one of the scenes where Amitabh Bachchan had to fasten Hemas blouse the veteran actress wanted a certain look on her face to deliver the best emotional impact. During the conversation Renuka said “There was a scene where she was getting ready standing in front of a mirror. At that time Raj comes from behind and upon seeing her says ‘Wow.’ Hema asked me to stitch her blouse a bit tight so that when Amit ji comes he can fasten it tightly. She said ‘That touch would give me the look I want’—one that conveyed ‘He’s touched me. After so many years of being married it meant so much.’ She is a very romantic person in real life.” As the interview progressed Renuka also revealed that Hema Malini was not the first choice for the character of Pooja Malhotra. She mentioned that the makers initially approached Tabu for the role. However Tabu turned down the offer saying that she did not want to play the mother of four. At the time Tabu was in her late 30s when the film was being made. Renuka disclosed that after Tabu declined the film her aunt was furious and said “Ye chappal nikalke tumhare sir pe marungi. Why did you say no to this film?” In the same interview Renuka shared that Baghban struggled in its initial days at the box office. She mentioned that securing a distributor for the film was a challenging task as many deemed it too old-fashioned. She noted that the movie had a slow start with disappointing results in the first four days but its performance improved significantly afterward. Apart from Amitabh and Hema the movie also feature Salman Khan and Mahima Chaudhry in key roles.  The extended star cast of Baghban was Aman Verma Samir Soni Saahil Chadha Nasir Kazi Rimi Sen Divya Dutta Suman Ranganathan Lillete Dubey and Paresh Rawal.
