The Railway Board has cancelled all pending departmental selections to Group C posts which were not finalised and approved by March 4, citing irregularities in the process. In a circular sent to general managers of all railway zones on Wednesday, the board said that due to several irregularities in departmental selection in recent times, it has been decided to revisit the departmental selection framework and all pending selections/LDCEs/GDCEs (within Group C) which have not been finalized and approved by March 4, 2025, may be treated as cancelled.
The Railway Board said no further selections can be initiated till further orders. Further instructions to regulate the selections will be issued in due course. Earlier in the day, in a significant move, the Railway Ministry inducted Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) to conduct all departmental promotion exams through a centralized computer-based exam.
Selection canceled after paper leak
Both the decisions came a day after 26 railway officials of East Central Railway were arrested at Mughal Sarai in Uttar Pradesh for leaking the departmental exam question paper and Rs 1.17 crore in cash was seized during the raid. Before the ministry's decision, departmental promotion examinations were conducted internally by railway divisions and zones and recently several allegations of corruption and use of unfair means in these examinations had surfaced.
The Loco Inspector Departmental Promotion Exam paper was leaked.
The Loco Inspector Departmental Promotion Examination was to be conducted by the Railway Board on 4 March 2025, but the exam was canceled due to a paper leak before the exam. Before the examination, the CBI had received information about the paper leak, when the CBI took action in this matter, the matter was found to be true and the examination has been canceled till further orders.
