Harry Brook, an England batter, is expected to be suspended from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two years after he canceled his contract with the Delhi Capitals (DC) before the March 22 commencement of the competition.
Brook apologized “unreservedly” to the team and its fans for taking time off for the second consecutive season.
“I have decided to withdraw from the next IPL, which is a really tough choice. “To the Delhi Capitals and their fans, I sincerely apologize,” Brook said on social media.
“I want to give my best to getting ready for the next series because it’s a very crucial moment for England cricket.
“I need time to recover from the busiest moment in my career thus far in order to do this. I don’t expect everyone to understand, but I have to do what I think is right, and playing for my nation will always be my first priority.”
Following the highly anticipated Ashes from November to January, England will host India in a home Test series in June.
After his grandma passed away, the 26-year-old Brook had already withdrawn from the 2024 IPL.
Unless they are injured, every foreign player who was selected at the auction but did not participate in the IPL risks a two-year suspension.
“Any [overseas] player who registers for [an] auction and, after getting picked at the auction, makes himself unavailable before the start of the season will get banned from participating in the IPL/IPL auction for two seasons,” according to a document released by the BCCI last year.
