The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a unique scheme aimed at encouraging population growth. Under this initiative, women who give birth to a third child will receive a cash incentive of ₹50,000. Additionally, if the child is a boy, the family will be gifted a cow. This announcement was made by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Kalisetty Appala Naidu from Vizianagaram.
The scheme has been launched to address the declining birth rate in Andhra Pradesh and maintain demographic balance. The state government has recognized that the birth rate in South India is steadily decreasing, which could have long-term consequences. MP Kalisetty Appala Naidu also stated that he would personally contribute to the cash incentives from his own salary.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed his support for this initiative, emphasizing the importance of managing India’s demographic dividend. He acknowledged that while he previously supported family planning, he now believes that increasing the birth rate strategically is necessary for the country’s future growth.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also announced an extension of maternity leave for women employees. Previously, this benefit was limited to only two children, but it will now apply regardless of the number of children a woman has.
The Andhra Pradesh government believes that this scheme will help maintain population stability, empower women financially, and contribute to sustainable demographic planning. By encouraging families to have more children, the state aims to secure its future workforce and economic growth.
