Indian Railways new rules- Picture for representation only

IRCTC ticket rules: In order to prevent the problem of overcrowding at railway platforms across India, the Indian Railways has decided that only passengers who have confirmed tickets will be allowed to enter stations platforms at 60 busy stations reportedly including Bengaluru and New Delhi, Anand Vihar, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Patna, as per a report by the Financial Express. Here are all the details you need to know.

Notably, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, after meeting with top railway officials on Friday, announced the implementation of crowd control measures at major stations across the country that frequently experience heavy footfall.

“Complete access control will be initiated at the 60 stations. Passengers with confirmed reserve tickets will be given direct access to the platforms. Those without a ticket or with a waiting list ticket will wait in the outside waiting area. All unauthorised entry points at stations will be sealed,” the statement was quoted as saying in a report by the Deccan Herald.

“With this concept, the sudden crowd will be contained within the waiting area. Passengers will be allowed to go to the platforms only when the trains arrive. This will decongest the stations,” it said.

“During the 2024 festival season, waiting areas created outside the Surat, Udhna, Patna and New Delhi railway stations were able to hold large crowds. Passengers were allowed on the platform only when the train arrived,” the statement said.

“A large number of cameras will be installed at all these railway stations and adjoining areas for close monitoring. War rooms will be developed at large stations. Officers of all departments will work in the war room during crowd situations,” it said.

Notably, the list of stations that may be a part of the list are New Delhi Railway Station (Delhi), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Mumbai), Howrah Junction (Kolkata), Chennai Central (Chennai) and Bengaluru City Railway Station (Bengaluru), as per a report by the Financial Express.
