After leading India to the 2025 Champions Trophy title, Rohit Sharma etched his name in the history books as the Men in Blue completed back-to-back ICC titles after ending an 11-year drought without winning a global competition following their victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup last year.
Rohit has become just the second Indian captain to win multiple ICC titles after MS Dhoni and the first to win two titles unbeaten. While Dhoni captained India to the 2013 Champions Trophy without losing a match, India won both the 2025 Champions Trophy and last year's T20 World Cup without losing a single game. In the last three ICC tournaments, India has won 22 out of 23 matches under Rohit's captaincy, with their only defeat coming in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia.
Rohit was the star of the show with the bat for the Indian team in the final after a disappointing tournament. Rohit played a match-winning knock of 76 in 83 balls in the summit clash against New Zealand to set the stage for a four-wicket win in a tense run chase at the Dubai International Stadium.

Rohit Sharma Creates History

Rohit Sharma, aged 37 years and 313 days, became the oldest captain in history to win the Champions Trophy. The Indian skipper broke a long-standing record of Brian Lara, who led West Indies to their sole title in the mega event in 2004 at the age of 35 years, 154 days.
Overall, Rohit is the second oldest captain in history to win an ICC title after Imran Khan, who captained Pakistan to a historic triumph in the 1992 World Cup. On the night of the victory against England in the final at the MCG, the legendary all-rounder was nearing his 40th birthday.
Rohit is the first captain in history to win two ICC titles after the age of 35. Clive LloydRicky Ponting and Pat Cummins are the only other captains to win multiple global events after turning 33. Ponting won three of his four ICC titles as captain after his 30th birthday

Rohit quashed rumours that he will retire from ODI cricket after India's historic triumph, which has opened up the chance of him playing and leading India in the 2027 World Cup which is still around 30 months. The tournament will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
If Rohit plays and leads India to victory in the quadrennial event, he will break Imran's record and become the first captain in history to win an ICC title after turning 40. No player in history has won a global event after celebrating his 40th birthday. Interestingly, the record for the youngest captain to win an ICC event belongs to India's Kapil Dev (24 years, 170 days) after leading India to the 1983 World Cup title. MS Dhoni (26 years, 79 days) is the second-youngest captain to lift an ICC trophy after captaining the Men in Blue to the 2007 T20 World Cup title.
Meanwhile, Rohit is also the second oldest player in history to win the Champions Trophy. Indian stars Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are the fifth and sixth oldest cricketers, respectively, to lay their hands on the prestigious title.

Rohit is also the oldest to win a POTM award in the final of an ICC event.
